The Library Channel (WYPL-TV Channel 18) will continue to air locally produced independent films this month on the "Last Train to Memphis" program. It's coordinated by (who else?) the local production company Last Train to Memphis (creators of the Charles Bukowski-meets-Shemp Howard dipsomaniacal comedy "Service with a Smile").
The program's September lineup includes two especially noteworthy screenings: "Project 366," an experimental "photojournal" of Memphis coordinated by Willy Bearden and David Tankersly; and "Morning Ritual," a brilliant black-and-white horror short directed by J. Lazarus Hawk and produced by Craig Brewer. The film won the Best Narrative Short award at the 2001 Indie Memphis Film Festival.
Also included will be two shorts by Danny Stanford and Corey Smithmier ("Battle of the Gods" and the promisingly titled "Beat Down in Clowntown"), as well as some music videos.
The "Last Train" program airs five times weekly: Midnight Sunday; 2 a.m. Thursday, 10:30 p.m. Thursday, 1:30 a.m. Saturday and 11 p.m. Saturday.

Micro Cinema Club on Wednesday

This month Indie Memphis Micro Cinema Club presents Cold Hearts, seventeen films by Icelandic filmmakers.
Cold Hearts, is now screening at venues around the US and Europe through 2006, organized by Package Deals in Brooklyn, NY. Featuring macabre stop animation, the secret life of moss, mouse suits, exploding dictaphones, women who live on clouds, Outkast ballads, and some very creative uses for whipped cream, Cold Hearts represents the whimsical Icelandic imagination. 17 artist films and music videos cover expansive aesthetic ground. Working in locales as diverse as art school in Los Angeles to the craggy vistas of Skagafjördur in northern Iceland, these young artists explore their native and adopted worlds in inventive ways. Audition tips
Thanks to Leslie K. Nelson for passing this along:
1. Don’t get cute with the slate.
This is not about you getting up and doing five at The Comedy Store. This is about you saying your name so we can match it to the coffee-stained callsheet. To put it another way, you know that obnoxious dude you auditioned with last week who made a horse’s ass of himself with some lame, Jokey McJoke in his slate? That guy you were embarrassed to be put on tape with? Don’t be that guy.
2. Don’t be a jerk to your fellow auditioners.
This includes showboating, scene-stealing, line-stepping-on and other forms of loud, selfish behavior. Remember, it is not just your acting talent that is being considered; it is your appeal in the fifteenth hour of a sixteen-hour day. Think you’re so slick? Think we can’t see it on tape?
Think again, chumley…
3. Don’t be needy.
I know—you need the job. We all need the job. Whatever. Don’t look or act like you do. If you need help with this, talk it over with your teacher or coach. Get a day job that pays enough you don’t need to rely on commercial income. But for the love of all that is holy, do NOT show us desperation. It has the loser taint we can smell a mile off, and no one wants a loser in the commercial they spent a year (yes, sometimes it takes A YEAR) getting to air.
4. Don’t improve on the copy unless you’re specifically asked to.
Remember: we are the jokesters, not you. Just because the copy is crappy by the time it’s reached your hands doesn’t mean it started out that way. Copywriters and art directors are usually pretty smart and funny people, even if we are sometimes dismissed as artsy-fartsy by suits and the client who consider themselves our mental superiors. (Does that chain of command sound familiar, actors?) So be on my side. Don’t mock the copy, even subtly. Yes, we know it (sometimes) blows. No, we don’t want to hear it from you.
And we’ll know. Oh, we’ll know.
5. Don’t look radically different from your headshot.
Not because we won't recognize you (you're on tape, right in front of me and my sandwich), but to avoid the endless scorn you will receive at our frustrated-screenwriter hands when we hold up a picture of you looking like Jessica Alba on a Maxim cover to the pudgy, middle-aged, Casual Mom-looking you on tape. Also, casting directors hate it. Frankly, this should be reason enough.
And finally…

Now that I’m on the other side of the camera, I routinely hear actors flipping out because their agent said business attire and they’ve shown up in casual business attire. Really—I SWEAR—it doesn’t matter. What matters is that you are good and kick ass and have fun. We can buy you a lab coat/housecoat/fur coat; we can’t conjure up mad acting skills. If we could, we’d be actors.

I have been lucky enough to
help out with the casting for the project described
below. It's going to be tons of fun and the pay is
really great. Below you will find the following
information: a breakdown of characters,
director/producer info, pay amount, shoot dates, and
all the necessary info you will need regarding the
filming of this pilot.
The talent pool in Memphis is so amazing, I just know
we can cast most of these characters using the
extraordinary actors in this city. The only character
that has been pre-cast is Nester. An actor in New
York will be coming in to play that part. The others
are wide open, so come on down.
This is happening very fast, so I will need all of
your submissions ASAP. We will be casting on
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6TH BEGINNING AT 9 AM. The
auditions will be held at 1460 Madison Avenue in
Midtown, Memphis. This means I have to receive your
headshot and resume no later than TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER
5TH.
Preferred way is to email to lindsey@playhouseonthesquare.org
Or you can drop them off first thing Tuesday at Playhouse on the Square,
51 South Cooper. We are open from 8 am to 5 pm. Playhouse phone
is 725-0776.
Once I have received your submission, I will call you
to set up your individual audition time. We are going
to schedule appointments in 10 minute increments. If
there are better times during the day for you, please
specify and give me all the availability options that
you have (of course there is no guarantee, but I will

A course available to those with some (or a great deal of) stage experience
who are interested in honing skills, getting rid of mannerisms, and expanding
your range. Scene and monologue work with emphasis on characterization and
intention.

A class for those interested in exploring acting for film and TV. Students

Black Snake Moan trailer tonight
This evening the South Main Art Trolley Tour takes place from 6 to 9. A series of videos from the Blues Foundation will be shown outdoors starting at 8:30 p.m. Craig Brewer will present the trailer for "Black Snake Moan."

Katrina 1st anniversary observance. MIFA food collection. Voter Registration. Otherlands commemorates the first Anniversary of the Hurricane Katrina disaster. One year later Bruce Biles with Elam McKnight and Keith Carter are ready to "laissez le bon temps rouler!" In America's "least American city" they don't mourn the dead for long. The party starts on the way back from the graveside.
JUST ADDED!!!! "Where the Light Meets the Mud" A documentary short by DAVID LEONARD, MARK GOOCH, and BRUCE BILES. Shot in New Orleans in December. this half hour film juxtaposes footage of the destruction of Hurricane Katrina in the Lower 9th Ward and around New Orleans with footage of a vagabond New Orleans vaudeville troop shot in Cafe Brazil. This troop of circus acts and clowns drift across the country like hobos, literally riding the rails and working for social reform in the Woodie Guthrie sense. They provide an eerie counterpoint to the disaster footage. Guided by New Orleans resident Bruce Biles, the filmmakers gained almost immediate access to New Orleans when civilians were allowed back into the city.
Of course it's a BENEFIT SHOW, but it still only costs five dollars. We are gathering food for MIFA, but we ain't gonna mess around with a bunch of cans and singles at the door. So bring $5 and get ready for some smokin' hot blues.
Look around the house, get that empty beer case or liquor crate you've been saving and clean out your pantry. You know you're never gonna fix those black eyed peas. Buy some more next New Years Eve, and give this can to the less fortunate folks here in your own neighborhood.

JUST ADDED!!!! "Where the Light Meets the Mud" A documentary short by DAVID LEONARD, MARK GOOCH, and BRUCE BILES. Shot in New Orleans in December. this half hour film juxtaposes footage of the destruction of Hurricane Katrina in the Lower 9th Ward and around New Orleans with footage of a vagabond New Orleans vaudeville troop shot in Cafe Brazil. This troop of circus acts and clowns drift across the country like hobos, literally riding the rails and working for social reform in the Woodie Guthrie sense. They provide an eerie counterpoint to the disaster footage. Guided by New Orleans resident Bruce Biles, the filmmakers gained almost immediate access to New Orleans when civilians were allowed back into the city.
Of course it's a BENEFIT SHOW, but it still only costs five dollars. We are gathering food for MIFA, but we ain't gonna mess around with a bunch of cans and singles at the door. So bring $5 and get ready for some smokin' hot blues.

Position wanted: Indie Memphis Festival Co-ordinator

For our 9th year, October 13-19, 2006, the Indie Memphis Film Festival continues its tradition as the nation’s only independent film festival focused on films relating to the American South. In order to produce such an event, a dedicated individual is needed for the position of Festival Coordinator to work both in the offices of Indie Memphis and in off-site locations during the months of August through October. This is a part-time, temporary, contract position.
General Requirements:
Candidates should be able to work in Microsoft Word and Excel, have excellent writing and communication skills and be very flexible with a sense of humor. Weekend and evening hours may be required.
The Film Festival Coordinator will be expected to perform a variety of duties, to ensure the overall planning, managing, and executing the operation of the Festival. Responsibilities include:
Volunteer Coordination:
Working with the Executive Director to update volunteer database and availability, work with various Festival committees to supply appropriate volunteers to work as needed during the Festival.
Special Events Coordination:
Working with the operations and media relations departments in executing all of the special events presented by the Film Festival. Responsible for assisting with all of the logistics of each event, (working with venues, ordering catering, props, ambiance, signage, etc.)
Programming:
Working directly under Program Committee Chair, duties include corresponding with film companies/directors, organizing database of entrants and participants, and organizing/scheduling film screenings. Good writing and communication skills, highly organized and detail-oriented required, familiarity with film industry is preferred.
Print Traffic Coordination:
Working under Program Committee Chair, duties include researching/organizing print availability and overseeing shipping of film prints for Festival - both inbound and outbound. Also responsible for ensuring prints' timely arrival in theaters for screenings during the Festival. Will help make duplicate copies of preview screeners for film critics and judges. Detail-oriented, good organization and communication skills required.
Travel Coordination:
Correspond with Festival guests regarding the arrangement of their travel schedules and hotel accommodations. Excellent communication skills and follow-through required.
Hospitality Management:
Duties include helping to register Festival guests upon their arrival, ensuring their attendance at their screenings/Festival events, coordinating volunteers for all guests' ground transportation needs, and, most important of all, making sure the guests enjoy their stay in Memphis and their entire visit to the Festival.
Publications Management:
Responsible for helping to edit the film descriptions and some of the special segments related to the Film Festival e.g. panels, workshops, special events.
Marketing Coordination:
Responsible for helping with marketing activity, including ad placement, coordinating with any tie-in marketing operations with other parties, liaising between publicity and sponsorship committees, developing new ways of promoting and executing film festival, building and executing tracking systems to enhance future audience development, and reaching out to new audiences, etc. Previous experience preferred.

Film incentives update
Here's a note from Linn Sitler on the status of the film incentives. This was posted on the Yahoo MidsouthFilm group and you should join it -- it's free.
As the film incentive program has developed since the enabling legislation passed in May, the state has become seriously aware of the fact that the fund is limited to $10 million in non-reoccuring funds to be used in one year. As you can imagine, there are innumerable worthwhile projects from which to select...projects with maximum Tennessee hires and Tennessee economic impact...projects whose producers have been waiting to see if our legislation would pass. No selections have been made yet, but unfortunately it is already clear there will not be enough money to go around.
Perhaps next year, if The General Assembly passes incentive legislation with re-occurring funds -- funds available every year -- we could then launch a full marketing campaign to make the industry even more aware of what would then be an on-going incentive fund. I feel sure that the careful thought and planning that is going into this year's selection will result in some great films for Tennessee, and, most importantly for us, Memphis. :)

'Black Snake' move

"Black Snake Moan" -- writer-director Craig Brewer's eagerly anticipated followup to the Oscar-winning "Hustle & Flow" -- has been bumped to February from its original release date of Sept. 15, in part because the imminent horror thriller "Snakes on a Plane" has such a tight squeeze on the pop culture zeitgeist that a second Sam Jackson snake film might get lost in the underbrush.
"Black Snake Moan" -- in which Jackson plays a God-fearing bluesman named Lazarus who takes extreme measures to help a sexually promiscuous young white girl (Ricci) conquer her demons -- is now set to open Feb. 17. "Snakes on a Plane" opens Aug. 18.
"Sam is going to be very taxed after 'Snakes on a Plane,' and the press is going to be very taxed on him," said Brewer. "So instead of fighting for screen time and press attention so close to 'Snakes on a Plane,' we're using that time to promote 'Black Snake Moan.'
The date switch also makes it possible for "Black Snake Moan" to screen out of competition in January at the Sundance Film Festival. Sundance officials have screened the film, and are eager to show it, if details can be worked out between Paramount and the festival.
A Sundance screening would be mutually beneficial: Appearances by Jackson, Ricci and co-star Justin Timberlake would enhance the festival's already high star wattage, and festival buzz could help build excitement for the film among critics and adult audiences, who may be wary of the film's volatile sexual and racial content.
Brewer said another reason "Black Snake Moan" was bumped to the winter is that test screenings for the movie indicate that "one of its key markets is going to be college kids, and you can't really market movies to them in September when they're getting back to school."
Wherever "Black Snake Moan" has its official debut, Brewer said he still wants to host a lavish Memphis premiere, similar to the "Hustle & Flow" premiere in July of 2005 that was attended by most of the movie's stars.
'My Blueberry Nights' starts shooting Thursday

After three weeks of delay, "My Blueberry Nights," an all-star cuisine-and-courtship road-trip movie from acclaimed Hong Kong director Wong Kar-wai, is scheduled to begin shooting Thursday in Memphis.
Stars Norah Jones, Rachel Weisz and David Strathairn are expected to be in town for the shoot, which is slated to run through Aug. 21 here.
Strathairn -- nominated for the Best Actor Oscar this year for his performance as Edward R. Murrow in "Good Night, and Good Luck" -- replaces Kevin Spacey, who has dropped out of the project. Weisz won this year's Best Supporting Actress honor for her role as a murder victim in "The Constant Gardener."
The movie's script is credited to Wong and veteran mystery writer Lawrence Block, but Wong traditionally uses a script only as a guideline, which is why schedule changes started almost immediately after production began June 21 in New York. Wong sometimes allows his stories to be directed in part by the locations, and in part by the suggestions and improvisations of the actors. Memphis is just one of multiple locations that will appear in the film.
The production originally had been scheduled to shoot in Memphis in July, at Downtown's Arcade Restaurant and Blues City Cafe. The movie has a new Memphis locations manager, however, and new locations are being scouted.
"My Blueberry Nights" is the story of a woman (Grammy Award-winning vocalist Norah Jones) who explores the sensual connection between love and food as she travels across the country. Weisz and Strathairn play two people she meets in Memphis; Jude Law and Natalie Portman are among the stars playing people she encounters in other locations.

I am asking those of you who are on the fence about seeing "Just the Two of Us" this on Thursday at 7 PM at Studio on the Square to PLEASE come see this movie. It is a touching, heartwarming, semi-autobiographical tale of The relationship between Nic Peeples (Keenon Nikita) and his daughter, Ashley (Hannah Johnson, Selina Nell Haley). You see the ups and downs they endure as his character realizes that the fame he desperately seeks means nothing without his daughter in his life. The tagline is "When love is everywhere but where you look". This is a great film. Keenon Nikita is not only the male lead, he is also the director and coeditor of the film along with Rod Pitts (www.pittstopproductions.com), who was also the Director of Photography. However, I think we all grew from the experience. There were days that didn't go so well, and days that would get us down, but those moments when the lighting, sound, and acting were all in perfect sync, seemed to wash away the trials and tribulations. I strongly believe in this film and what it represents: The beautiful loving relationship between a father and his daughter no matter what the circumstance. So with that being said, I urge you to view Just the Two of Us, this Thursday at Malco's Studio on the Square at 7 PM. The admission is $15. We are trying to send this to as many film festivals as we can.

"Broken Esteem" was written and co-directed by Lynda Ingram with direction assistance provided by Timm Scalita.
"Broken Esteem" is about a 16-year-old girl, Brenda (Britney Card), who is being abused by her parents, but loved them so much that she would not confide in anyone about the abuse. She is saved by her little brother Dwain (Kai Tutor), Aunt Ginnie Mae (Brenda Card) and Uncle Zack (Timm Scalita).
Ernie Salera (Jonathan Jones) has appeared in three film projects, the 20th Century Fox pilot "Southern Comfort" with executive producer Ken Topolsky, and "The Garden" (an independent film shot April 2006). Salera has also modeled in the Memphis Bridal Show. His training consists of improvisation, commercials, and scene study (Lisa Lax Actors Studio).
Brenda Card (Aunt Ginnie Mae) resume includes two FM100 commercials, a featured extra in "Forty Shades of Blue" and “Beverly Hills 90210," and supporting actress in "Just the Two of Us", and "Chosen."
Brittney Card (Brenda) previous works include three modeling shows with John Robert Powers in the Mid-South Wedding Show, cover work on two "Little House on the Prairie" books scheduled for release in 2007, and acting as an extra in "Just the Two of Us" before landing the leading roll in “Broken Esteem.”
Raine Hicks (Margaret Jones) is a teacher in the Memphis City School System and has played many roles in the theaters including Fairy Godmother in “Cinderella” at Playhouse on the Square, Dina in “Schoolhouse Rock Live!” at Circuit Playhouse, and Magenta in “Rocky Horror Show” at Roxy Theater, Atlanta, GA. "Broken Esteem" is her debut into film playing Brenda's abusive mother.
Siblings Quin (Jon Jon), Kai (Dwain), and Daisye (Stephanie) Tutor are a bundle of talent. All three played students in "21Grams," a major motion picture filmed in Memphis and directed by Alejandro Inarritu. Both brothers played students in "Southern Comfort" directed by Greg Yaitanes. Quin Tutor was also featured in "Protecting the Source" where he played the lead role of Johnny. Daisye Tutor’s resume includes work on "Black Snake Moan" and commercials for Hilton Hotels and St. Jude Hospital.
Director/Actor Timm Scalita (Uncle Zack) is a Memphis filmmaker that took time out of his own projects to assist with this film. He is currently working on another film "The Love of Angels."
C. M. Byerly provided the soundtrack and editing talent for this film.
Writer/Director Lynda Ingram whose previous films include "On Our Way" (a Warner Brothers Studio production directed by Frank Von Zerneck), a movie pilot "Son of Shaft", and two music videos "My Head's in Mississippi" ZZ Top and "Charge of the Light Brigade" Degarmo and Key. Ingram has been writing for years, and recently met Morgan Fox of the Media Co-op. Ingram credits Fox for giving her the “confidence that [she] could make [her] dream come true.”

"Broken Esteem" is about a 16-year-old girl, Brenda (Britney Card), who is being abused by her parents, but loved them so much that she would not confide in anyone about the abuse. She is saved by her little brother Dwain (Kai Tutor), Aunt Ginnie Mae (Brenda Card) and Uncle Zack (Timm Scalita).
Ernie Salera (Jonathan Jones) has appeared in three film projects, the 20th Century Fox pilot "Southern Comfort" with executive producer Ken Topolsky, and "The Garden" (an independent film shot April 2006). Salera has also modeled in the Memphis Bridal Show. His training consists of improvisation, commercials, and scene study (Lisa Lax Actors Studio).
Brenda Card (Aunt Ginnie Mae) resume includes two FM100 commercials, a featured extra in "Forty Shades of Blue" and “Beverly Hills 90210," and supporting actress in "Just the Two of Us", and "Chosen."
Brittney Card (Brenda) previous works include three modeling shows with John Robert Powers in the Mid-South Wedding Show, cover work on two "Little House on the Prairie" books scheduled for release in 2007, and acting as an extra in "Just the Two of Us" before landing the leading roll in “Broken Esteem.”

Li'l Film Fest THREE!
Live From Memphis presents LI'L FILM FEST 3!! - Call for Entries
Kung who?... No, KUNG FU!!
In the initial development stages of our li'l festival a statement was made. That statement read as follows: "There's always something weird, strange, unusual, funny, or at least interesting happening around town, so we figured, why not turn those happenings into li'l films?"
At this time some of you might be asking yourselves, "What does Kung Fu have to do with Memphis?" If this is the case: (A) Stop talking to yourself, your mom might hear you and send you back to the shrink; and (B) Imagine for a moment small groups of individuals all wandering around town with video cameras making films about Kung Fu.... You know what people will say when they see this strange phenomena? They'll say "How weird," "How strange," "How unusual," "How funny," or "Hey, that's interesting."
So become a part of Memphis happenings and "Get off your ass and go make a Li'l Film - Memphis Style!"
“What is Li'l Film Fest?” you ask. Well, there’s always something weird, strange, unusual, funny, or at least interesting happening around town, so we figured, Why not turn those happenings into li'l films?
“How does it work?” It’s pretty easy. Basically, we here at LFM will pick a theme, then we’ll announce that theme to you, and then you get to go out and make a short video (or film if you want to be fancy) using that theme – the rest of the content is up to you.
“Why is it a mini-fest?” Two reasons: One, we plan on having one every quarter – that’s FOUR festivals a year. How fun is that? And two, when we say “li'l” we mean it - your film must be 5 minutes or less.
“Is there anything else I should know?” Geez, you ask a lot of questions, but the answer is “Yes.” The winner of LFM’s Li'l Film Fest will receive a $200 cash prize plus a guaranteed spot in the next Indie Memphis Film Festival! So keep that in mind when you’re rolling those cameras.

Also we will be casting a few more adult supporting characters in the next two weeks.

'My Blueberry Nights' delays
Here an excerpt from today's story by John Beifuss in The Commercial Appeal. Read the full story here.
Wong Kar-wai, the acclaimed director of such dreamlike Hong Kong masterpieces as "In the Mood for Love" (2000) and the Quentin Tarantino favorite "Chungking Express" (1994) -- had been expected to come to town this weekend with singer-turned-actress Norah Jones to begin shooting the Memphis segment of his first English-language movie, "My Blueberry Nights."
Wong and Jones -- possibly accompanied by Kevin Spacey and recent Best Supporting Actress Oscar-winner Rachel Weisz -- originally were scheduled to shoot Monday through Friday at such familiar Memphis locations as the Arcade Restaurant on South Main and Blues City Cafe on Beale. Now, the shooting has been delayed, with no definite date set. Locations and casting could change, too, according to Memphis Film Commissioner Linn Sitler -- even though a casting call for local extras for the film was held July 1.
"We're still in discussions," Sitler said. "Since this is a movie taking place in a lot of different cities, everything is in flux."
"My Blueberry Nights" -- an independent production financed in part by France's StudioCanal -- began production June 21 in New York.

Indie Memphis -- deadline news
The 9th annual Indie Memphis Soul of Southern Film Festival is scheduled for
October 13-19 at Muvico Peabody Place 22 Theaters in downtown Memphis.
The published deadline for film submissions is July 15. However this year we
have a special extended deadline of July 31 for filmmakers who submit their
movies through Withoutabox. (www.withoutabox.com) All submissions must fit
within the festival theme: a celebration of independent southern cinema.
These are movies that are either made in the south, made by southern
filmmakers, or have some relevance to the southern experience.
The Indie Memphis partnership with Withoutabox is new this year. Today we
were included in an email blast to over 93,000 filmmakers (below), and we
will be included in another blast two weeks from today. We've heard great
things from filmmakers and film festivals about the role that WAB plays in
getting independent films seen by audiences. We are optimistic that this
partnership will have great benefits in our efforts to program the best in
independent cinema.
We'll keep you posted as our plans develop.

In celebration of the 13th year of the Pine Bluff Film Festival, Old Town Theatres Centre, Inc. is going to be doing something quite different - we will be staging our very first Silent Film Contest - Silents are Golden.
Now what on earth is that you ask? Quite simple. We believe that Silent Films are an integral part of our cultural heritage - and what better way to learn how to make a film and to celebrate our past than to make one without sound!
The contest is open to everyone. The only stipulation is that the film be silent - no dialogue whatsoever.
It can be a comedy (ala Chaplin, Keaton, etc.), or historical drama (like Griffith or DeMille), perhaps you'd rather present a simple romance, or a documentary - frankly, it can be a completely modern and contemporary statement - anything goes - except for sound! Don't think you can do it? Well, we're betting you can.
Now don't think you have to mimic a silent film of the past (though you most certainly can!) - open up your imagination and let us see what you can do. We think you'll surprise yourself once you start to plan your film.
So, whether you're a seasoned film-maker, or someone who just always dreamed of making a film - here's your chance to do something unique! The Top 5 films will be shown at The Community Theatre on the last day of the Festival (October, 2006 - exact dates to be determined soon).
There Are No Entry Fees
THE RULES
* Films MUST be silent - music and limited sound effects only will be permitted. Title Cards are optional of course.
* Films can be of any duration
* Films can be of any subject matter

Building on Mr. Hambrick's vision, we mainly focus on identifying talent in impoverished areas, good solid training, performance opportunities, agency placement and funding for auditions for these talented young people. We also hope to connect to the local performing arts community by offering free daily dance classes and vocal workshops for performing artists when they are actively in productions. We are still very young, but growing at a rapid pace. Mr. Hambrick also works in conjunction with Lisa Lax.

who has a son who is trying to make it in the music industry
as a rapper and get signed to a major deal. the film is called white
man cant rap, so its a comedy meets drama type of film, its got a good
cast but we just need a moma Maybell to top it off. if anyone knows
someone who could play this character or anyone in the acting community

Great indie flicks at the Brooks
From John Beifuss' story in today's Commercial Appeal:
Indie films and "rockumentaries" will be screened this month at the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art as the Overton Park institution continues its renewed commitment to movie programming.
The "rockumentary" series begins at 2 p.m. Sunday with the acclaimed documentary "Neil Young: Heart of Gold," directed by Jonathan Demme.
The series continues at 2 p.m. July 16 with "Amazing Grace: Jeff Buckley," a look at the too-short life of the singer-songwriter whose intensely devoted following has continued to grow since Buckley's 1997 drowning in the Mississippi River near Mud Island.
The final film in the series is Greg Whiteley's "New York Doll," which makes its Memphis theatrical premiere at 2 p.m. July 23. The movie -- which debuted at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival -- catches up with Arthur 'Killer' Kane, a founding member of the New York Dolls who gave up glam rock for Mormonism.
The rock doc series was coordinated in conjunction with "Annie Leibovitz: American Music," an exhibition of photographs that runs through Aug. 27. The films are free with regular museum admission.
Meanwhile, the museum also will make room for overlooked independent films this summer.
At 7 p.m. Thursday, the museum will screen Rebecca Dreyfus' "Stolen," a documentary that examines the still unsolved 1990 theft of masterpieces by Manet, Rembrandt and Vermeer from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston.
The museum's "indieWIRE: Undiscovered Gems" series devoted to independent film continues at 7 p.m. July 25 with "Red Doors," the story of a bizarrely dysfunctional Chinese-American family in the New York suburbs. Admission to "Stolen" and "Red Doors" is $7 per person, or $5 for Brooks members.
"Dollars and Signs," a local film shot by MeDiA Co-op co-founder Brandon Hutchinson, will be shown at 8 p.m. Aug. 2 as part of the museum's "First Wednesday" program for the month. Hutchinson will introduce the film and answer questions afterward. Free with regular museum admission.
At 7 p.m. Aug. 10, the museum will host a double feature of recent romantic comedy-dramas to mark the conclusion of the annual Outflix festival devoted to gay and lesbian cinema. The movies include Q. Allan Brocka's "Boy Culture," about a professional "male escort," and Peter Paige's "Say Uncle," with a cast that includes Kathy Najimy and Gabrielle Union. Admission is $10.
Finally, at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 24, the museum will host a barbecue tasting and discussion session along with the local premiere of the documentary "Whole Hog" about Middle Tennessee barbecue. Director Joe York (rhymes with pork) of the Southern Foodways Alliance and food writer Leslie Kelly of The Commercial Appeal will help host the event. Admission is $20, or $10 for museum members.
