Arts funding in Memphis

ArtsMemphis recently added 500 donors contributing the the local arts funding agency. But there's still a way to go. From a story in the CA:

According to figures from Americans for the Arts, about 26,000 donors contributed $7.9 million to Louisville's Fund for the Arts in 2007. ArtsMemphis, meanwhile, received about $3 million from just 2,300 donors.

"Our peer-city analysis is showing we are lagging behind not just in dollars ... but in number of donors," ArtsMemphis president and CEO Susan Schadt said. "That's something that needs to be underscored."

Since completing its rebranding last September, which included a new Web site, magazine and ad campaign in addition to a name change, ArtsMemphis [formerly the Greater Memphis Arts Council] has attracted an additional 500 donors.
